PRINTFEST SUMMER WORKSHOP – DRUSILLA COLE

Multi-Coloured Linocuts
Spend Two Days Working with Printfest Artist Drusilla Cole
Thursday 6th & Friday 7th August

 

Participants will be shown how to prepare the lino, transfer the image, which tools to use and how to sharpen them, and how to ink, register and print the prints. Advice will be given on choice of image. Once a design has been arrived at, participants will be shown how to add colour by means of various techniques.

Skills/Techniques Covered

Reduction techniques, where a single piece of lino is progressively cut and printed to build up the desired image
Offsetting a key block to produce subsequent blocks for cutting to print with the key lino block
The use of paper stencils to mask off areas of the lino block prior to printing
The jigsaw method of cutting the lino block which enables the printing of parts of the lino block separately

Tutor: Drusilla Cole taught as a Senior Lecturer at The University of the Arts, London for over 25 years. Pattern in all forms has long been an interest and Drusilla has written several books on the subject. In 2014, she had work accepted for the National Original Print Exhibition at the Bankside Gallery in London and one of her large linocuts was accepted for the National Art Competition and shown at the Somerset House Gallery in London.
