Portrait Masterclass: Self Portrait And Tone

From lighting to charcoal drawing techniques join Catherine MacDiarmid in this workshop exploring setting and drawing a self-portrait in tone. No need for lots of prior experience, just a love and thirst for wanting to develop the drawn portrait. Catherine will even provide individual feedback after the session to help develop your approach.

Important Information

You will need access to the internet and Zoom. The Zoom link, meeting ID and passcode will be on your e-ticket, this will be emailed to you after booking.

This workshop is aimed at those aged 16 years plus. After the workshop images of artwork can be sent to Catherine within 6 days and she will then provide individual written feedback via email. Details of how to send images will be sent on receipt of booking.

What do I need?

Coloured pastel paper A3 or bigger -Charcoal, white pastel. -A mirror that is positioned so you can see yourself clearly in it and spotlight positioned to the side, or you can use a good selfie shot of yourself with lighting that includes some shadows. -If possible, work with your paper upright so an easel, table easel or some books to prop up your drawing is a good idea.

About the tutor

Catherine MacDiarmid is a local award-winning artist who has exhibited widely, including exhibiting in the BP Portrait award in 2001/2. She is an elected member of The Lakes Artists Society and appeared in Sky Portrait Artists of the Year 2014, 2018 reaching the semi-finals in 2019. She was recently commissioned to paint Jon Snow, journalist and Channel Four news broadcaster, for Sky Arts, painting the commission live on Facebook and Sky Arts.

As well as completing private portrait commissions her work is in collected internationally and works from her home-based studio in Kendal. Her artwork focuses on the human form, exploring expression and movement in both drawing & painting. www.catherinemacdiarmid.co.uk
