For anyone who fancies drawing a self-portrait, join award winning artist Catherine MacDiarmid and explore what we’ve all got used to – the ‘Zoom view’ of ourselves. From quick studies to a longer drawing get some invaluable techniques and tips on how to get started.
This session is suitable for all, whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience in drawing. Catherine will even provide individual feedback after the session to help develop your approach.
Important Information
You will need access to the internet and Zoom. The Zoom link, meeting ID and passcode will be on your e-ticket, this will be emailed to you after booking.
This workshop is aimed at those aged 16 years plus.
After the workshop images of artwork can be sent to Catherine within 6 days and she will then provide individual written feedback via email. Details of how to send images will be sent on receipt of booking.
What do I need?
- Sketchbook A3 or bigger, or 3 x cartridge paper
- Drawing board
- Charcoal, or soft graphite/soft pencils (light mediums are difficult to see on screen). -If possible, work with your paper upright so an easel, table easel or some books to prop up your drawing is a good idea.

About the tutor
Catherine MacDiarmid is a local award-winning artist who has exhibited widely, including exhibiting in the BP Portrait award in 2001/2. She is an elected member of The Lakes Artists Society and appeared in Sky Portrait Artists of the Year 2014, 2018 reaching the semi-finals in 2019. She was recently commissioned to paint Jon Snow, journalist and Channel Four news broadcaster, for Sky Arts, painting the commission live on Facebook and Sky Arts. As well as completing private portrait commissions her work is in collected internationally and works from her home-based studio in Kendal. Her artwork focuses on the human form, exploring expression and movement in both drawing & painting. www.catherinemacdiarmid.co.uk

Some live events may carry strict age restrictions, these are outlined on our website. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult at all times during evening events.
