Photography Exhibition by Marc Langley

Out of the Shadows is a deeply personal body of work exploring the void that is left with the loss of a sibling, using climbing photography as a vehicle for this exploration.

The exhibition portrays familiar climbing routes and compositions whilst combining two distinct photography techniques to present something which the climbing community is familiar with seeing, but, in a new light.

For Marc, this body of work is about processing the loss of his brother. On another level, it also reflects the world we are currently living in; a deeply polarised society consisting of polarising views and rigid belief cycles. By using climbing photography, Marc hopes to encourage viewing the world in a different light, by challenging our beliefs and learning to exist in the present.

Located at Brewery Arts, Kendal, this stunning exhibition is brought to you by Kendal Mountain Festival and Petzl. It will be open Tues to Sat, 11am to 4pm from 15 November – 3 December 2022. It will also be open throughout the duration of Kendal Mountain Festival (17-20 November).

Marc Langley is a Lake District-based adventure photographer who was born in Liverpool and raised in the North West of England. His parents introduced him to the great outdoors from an early age, scrambling around on Chew Valley’s Gritstone Outcrops and exploring the Yorkshire Dales. As decades went on, Marc found a love for climbing and a subsequent desire to record and document his adventures.

Marc has built an extensive portfolio since those early days in adventure sports photography, working with some of the biggest commercial brands in the world and their respective athletes. Assignments include historically significant documentation of some of Patagonia’s best climbers and cutting-edge routes in the world, as well as working on some of the most distinctive and intimate interviews with the aforementioned.
