SATURDAY 15TH OCT 10.30-11.30am Comics Clock Tower, Council Chamber
Frontline reportage has arguably found its most powerful medium through comics. Proof of this may lie in an emerging project by prize-wining illustrator and comics creator Olivier Kugler. During two commissions assigned by Medecins sans Frontieres Olivier spent time with Syrian refugees in Iraqi Kurdistan and in Greece. He conducted many interviews and took countless photographs creating a series of illustrations which were published in Harper’s (USA), The Guardian (UK), Le Monde (France) and Internazionale (Italy) amongst others. Those from Domiz refugee camp became the overall winner in the Association of Illustrators’ World Illustration Award 2015. Olivier is now working on a full-length graphic novel which will explore and reveal refugees’ personal stories and at this special event he’ll present and discuss work-in-progress with comic art commentator, editor and writer John Freeman.
