3.00-4.00 New Waves in Contemporary Comics: Breakdown Press
Venue: Comics Clock Tower
Breakdown Press is a London-based comics publisher dedicated to producing cutting-edge work by new cartoonists and forgotten classics of the past. Experimental and avant-garde, they produce risographs (that’s a special kind of digital photocopying), graphic novels and new translations of manga. This is an opportunity to discover the work of two of their leading artists, Joe Kessler and Antoine Cosse (on a special visit to the festival from France). Antoine’s book J.1137 received great critical acclaim on its launch at Comic Art Brooklyn in 2013, and Joe’s first book, Windowpane, was described by The New Statesman as “the best looking book you will hold this year”..
