Paris, 1899, and romantic poet Christian starts hanging out at the notorious Moulin Rouge. On first glimpsing the club's star, Satine, he falls madly in love, and she returns his feelings. But with her health deteriorating and a jealous Duke set on separating them, things start spiralling out of control in this stylish musical, with music drawn from familiar 20th century sources.
