Fri 19 Jun | 4-6pm | Ages 14-21 | Free | Castle Room
This workshop will explore what happens when we let different voices into our writing. What do they say, how do they say it, and what imaginative worlds do they open up? How do these voices stir up the dynamics of a piece of writing, or invigorate it? We will look at examples of dramatic monologues and mixed voice poems from Daljit Nagra to Anne Carson; we will put strange creatures in unexpected places; and we’ll use masks to explore how we fully inhabit other personae. We will work on conjuring different voices and then invite them to run amok in the varied rooms of our own work. By the end of the workshop, we should all have drafts of new pieces of writing to take away and work with, along with new confidence in our work and the places it can travel. Come prepared to play and experiment!
