Bursting with colour and style, this walkway of shoes by Kirkbie Kendal Year 7,8 & 9 demonstrates a variety of new skills including screen-printing and textile techniques that have been developed with artist Kate Reid. The banners that have been created have been designed to reflect the Kendal’s shoe industry that utilised skills developed in the yards from the textile trade. What started as small family businesses making one pair of boots or shoes per day, was followed by the demand for outworkers, working at home in the yards of Kendal, by the fast growing K shoes business. Skilled ‘clickers’ cut the leather and this was taken away for stitching predominantly by women who were paid piece mean. Don’t miss these bright, eye-catching banners in Shakespeare yard.
