KAOS – INTO THE WOODS

3rd November 2015 – 7th November 2015

Tues 3 – Sat 7 Nov | 7:15pm | £12/£9 (Under 16s)

An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch … who raps? They're all among the cockeyed characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's fabulous fractured fairy tale – the perfect family treat.

When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects ( a cow as white as milk…a cape as red as blood… hair as yellow as corn… a slipper as pure as gold… ) required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel, Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk)  and encounter some not so princely princes!  Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One but this re-telling goes beyond familiar “happily ever after” and the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results.

The familiar characters find themselves in unfamiliar circumstances and hopes and dreams are questioned and revisted through a series of comic plots.  What begins a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

A recent Disney box office hit starring Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt and Jonny Depp this show is sure to be a bit hit with audiences young and old alike.

Venue: Kendal Town Hall
