This course will introduce the beginner to the basics of guitar playing, covering practical techniques and rudimentary theory.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

Using tutor demonstration, video and audio examples, One to one and small group coaching,

By the end of the course you will have learned how to:
1. Tune the guitar
2. Read and play basic chords and guitar tablature
3. Perform simple strumming techniques
4. Recognise notes on the guitar fretboard
5. Play a range of simple pieces
6. Identify components of major guitar chords

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a guitar, a pen, a notebook and your glasses, if you need them.

About the tutor

Keith Redfern has taught guitar for many years from beginners to more advanced learners. He plays acoustic and electric guitar and works as a freelance musician, tutor and music leader. Alongside teaching in adult education, he works in schools and on music projects around the area.
