About the event:
Enjoy an evening of Spanish tapas, film and lively debate in our relaxed film screenings in the Warehouse Café.
On 14 June we’ll screen a romantic comedy set in the Basque Country. The film is extremely funny and it tackles issues such as living under the shadow of ETA and the kale borroka in the past, the peace process & the cultural identity of the north & south of Spain.
On 21 June the follow up film is set in an independent Cataluña and explores the possible independence issue and how different sections of society feel about it. It was written, filmed and shown in 2015.
Pilar Valera will led the discussion and will explore and work, prior to watching the film, on the cultural, political and some of the vocabulary that will appear in the film, so as to understand the meaning of the jokes and gaffes.
After the film we will talk about the topics: National identity and independence from Spain.
By the end of the two sessions you will have laughed and have reflected on Spain/Euskadi & Catalonia relationship and its national identities.
Both evenings can be booked independently or book on both and receive a £5 discount.
