What does fashion mean to you? How does what we wear impact on our environment? In this workshop find out what sustainable fashion really means and consider alternative ideas to our dominant fashion system. Make your own garment from re/upcycled resources that says something about you.
What will the session cover?
Experiment with different materials to make a fashion cape that is unique to you and your ideas about fashion of the future.
Who is it suitable for?
Anyone can take part; you don’t need to be able to sew! If you’re interested in fashion, the environment and making your voice heard then this is for you!
What do I need to bring?
Bring a packed lunch and a drink. All materials are included but you may wish to bring items from your wardrobe to style with your handmade garment.

About the artist
Sarah May has an interdisciplinary visual art practice. For 12 years she ran a studio focusing on set design for a wide variety of editorial and commercial fashion shoots. Alongside this she cultivated a personal creative practice focusing on the intimate relationship of material to the body and how one encounters this physically. She is part of FLINT; a collective of three female artists making audio-visual assemblages that involve sonic cut ups, sculpture and collage.
She has self-published 2 books, both launched with site-specific exhibitions.
She lectures at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts, London on BA Fashion Styling and Production. She leads a Fashion Futures course at BSIX College in Hackney, London and she leads fashion and textile workshops with a refugee charity in London.
She is growing a dye garden at her allotment and hopes to be able to create her own natural dyes in the future.
