Expressive Mark-making And Abstract Painting

Explore expressive mark making and develop ways to make interesting and unusual marks. Learn how to use different materials and layer these in exciting ways.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
You will use different materials such as inks, acrylics, oil sticks, mixed media and collage. The course will be taught by a series of demonstrations by Annie, and different techniques will be introduced every week.

By the end of the course, you will have both a collection of paintings and a toolkit which will enable you to use different methods to develop an abstract painting.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students need to bring a selection of different coloured inks,  pencils, charcoal, a sharpie pen, graphite, acrylic gloss (medium), kitchen roll, masking tape, baby wipes and large amounts of a selection of colours of acrylic paint (quantity rather than quality).  Please bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them.

Are there any additional costs?
You will be able to buy large paper from the tutor and may need to bring more materials as the courses progresses which the tutor will advise.

About the tutor
Annie Coxey is an experienced abstract artist and teacher whose work is experimental but also heavily influenced by the landscape around her. She has taught both at Kendal College and throughout Cumbria.
