Explore different methods that can be used individually or combined to create individual pieces of textile art including felt making, simple printing techniques, silk papermaking, and hand and machine embroidery.
What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
During the course you will a number of techniques and learn how to develop them in order to create pieces of your own design. We will look at a different technique each week and after a tutor demonstration, you will have the opportunity to have a go yourself.
After practising the techniques, you will be encouraged to develop them and think about how you could use them in order to create pieces of your own design. At the end of the course, you will have a portfolio of samples for your future reference and some finished pieces.

About the tutor
Caren studied fashion design at the University of Salford and then worked in the fashion industry as a designer of Ladies’ and Children’s wear for well-known high street stores.
Today Caren’s uses wool & silk fibres in a ‘painterly’ way in order to create textural moody felt pieces that depict landscapes, seascapes & floral designs. As well as felt, Caren works in other textile media including: Batiks, Silk Paintings, Hand Made Silk Paper pieces & Devore.
In addition to creating & selling her own work, Caren teaches adult classes & workshops as well as privately. She also teaches Art in primary schools throughout Cumbria and Lancashire.
