Art & Crafts Experiment With Feltmaking

During this fun, creative short course discover all the techniques in order to create everything ‘felty’. Create felt pictures, bags, 3D vessels, jewellery, wall hangings, and 3D sculptures.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

The course covers all the techniques associated with felt making, including wet felting, needle felting and ‘Nuno’ felting.  The tutor will demonstrate the technique, before you have a go yourself, with the tutor always on hand for help and advice.

You will create a series of samples and some finished pieces. You will be encouraged to be creative and experiment with colour and texture. You will create felted pictures, 3D vessels and seamless bags as well as jewellery and corsages and Nuno felted wall hangings. By the end of the course you will have a range of items to be proud of!

What do I need to bring with me?

 Each week please bring with you

  • one or two towels (not best ones!)
  • rubber or vinyl gloves if you are sensitive to soap,
  • pencils and pens for taking notes
  • apron or over shirt to protect your clothes.

The tutor will provide materials which are covered in the cost of the course.

Are there any additional costs?

No, the course fee includes all materials.

About the tutor

Caren studied fashion design at University of Salford and then worked in the fashion industry as a designer of Ladies’ and Children’s wear for well-known high street stores.

Today Caren’s uses wool & silk fibres in a ‘painterly’ way in order to create textural moody felt pieces that depict landscapes, seascapes & floral designs. As well as felt, Caren works in other textile media including: Batiks, Silk Paintings, Hand Made Silk Paper pieces & Devore.

In addition to creating & selling her own work, Caren teaches adult classes & workshops as well as privately. She also teaches Art in primary schools throughout Cumbria and Lancashire.
