19th October 2019

19 Oct | 10.30-4.30pm | Tutor Karen Lester | £63 per day

Create prints through the exciting processes of etching. Using copper sulphate and aluminium plates, Karen Lester will guide you through the processes of plate preparation, etching, inking and printing. Suitable for those new to etching and for those with some experience.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

This is a one day workshop suitable for all levels of experience, repeated throughout the year in selected months.

You will produce prints from metal (aluminium) plates using copper sulphate, ‘safe etching’. Follow the processes to –

  • Prepare a metal plate using resists to create tone
  • Ink the plate ready for printing
  • Print through printing press

Tutor-led demonstrations, discussion, example work and handouts will guide you through the process.

Individuals will be supported throughout. Participants are encouraged to experiment with the emphasis very much on individual practical experience. There will be opportunities to discuss results individually.

By the end of the course/workshop you will:
produce at least one plate from your chosen reference image and take a print from this. Once created, this plate can be kept to use for several impressions.

This is a one day workshop repeated during autumn and spring terms.
