DRAWING ON JAPAN : MIYAZAKI, MASTER OF GHIBLI

Festivals |
15th October 2016

SATURDAY 15th Oct 10.30-11.30am

BAC Theatre

Four acclaimed comic artists from Japan and the UK, all of whom draw on Japan for their inspiration in some shape or form, pay a unique homage to Hayao Miyazaki, the master of Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki has had a profound influence on artists, comic artists, illustrators, film-makers and more across the world with the philosophy, unique storytelling and sheer visual beauty of his films.

Jonathan Edwards (UK), Ken Niimura (Japan), Miki Yamamoto (Japan) and Emma Vieceli (UK) will come together on stage for the first, and perhaps only, time to create an original piece of artwork before your eyes and in their own inimitable styles. The brief is simple – to take any of Miyazaki’s films or characters as inspiration and draw!
This special, magical live draw event will be hosted by Toronto Comic Art Festival Director Christopher-san (aka Christopher Butcher) who writes about comics and manga and is a self-confessed Japanophile
