Discover Feltmaking will now start a week later on 23 Jan due to unforeseen circumstances. The missed session will either take place on 17 Feb or 2 April, to be confirmed in agreement with those who have already booked at the first class.
What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
You will learn how to create pictures in felt, as well as vessels and bowls, bags and purses using wet felting techniques. You will also learn the art of needle felting and make 3D decorations and figures and also ‘Nuno’ felting where interesting effects are achieved by wet felting onto sheer fabrics. You will be taught by tutor demonstration and then by having a go yourself.
By the end of the course, you will have a number of items made using the techniques covered in the course, enabling you to continue to make more items at home.
What do I need to bring with me?
The tutor will provide materials each week which are included in the course fee, but you may want to bring along some of your own as the course develops, for your own use. Books will be suggested but are not essential.
Please bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them.
Are there any additional costs?
Basic materials are provided but you may want to bring additional items.
About the tutor
Caren studied fashion design at University of Salford and then worked in the fashion industry as a designer of Ladies’ and Children’s wear for well-known high street stores.
Today Caren’s uses wool & silk fibres in a ‘painterly’ way in order to create textural moody felt pieces that depict landscapes, seascapes & floral designs. As well as felt, Caren works in other textile media including: Batiks, Silk Paintings, Hand Made Silk Paper pieces & Devore.
In addition to creating & selling her own work, Caren teaches adult classes & workshops as well as privately. She also teaches Art in primary schools throughout Cumbria and Lancashire.
