Design and create a kinetic bird sculpture while exploring diverse modelling techniques, experimenting with varied materials and simple movement mechanism that bring your handcrafted creature to life.
What will the class cover and how will it be taught?
This five-part course will guide you through designing and creating your own mixed-media kinetic bird sculpture. You’ll explore a variety of modelling techniques, including building a lightweight willow frame, mould making and papier-mâché and constructing accessible mechanisms that introduce movement. You will experiment with combining media with a focus on recycled and natural materials. Teaching will combine short demonstrations with guided practice and hands-on making. Allowing you to develop skills while shaping your own creative vision. By the end, you have a unique bird sculpture and a set of adaptable skills in mixed media construction that you can adapt for future projects.
