About the course:
Improve your sketching skills along Kendal’s riverfront.
Spend the mornings drawing on location, working on composition, simple sighting techniques and line quality. Studio time in the afternoon will be for exploring and developing watercolour techniques.
Day 1 will focus on the area around Nether Bridge and Abbot Hall. Day 2 will focus on Miller Bridge and Canal Head. Plans may change with the weather.
What will I need to bring with me? Any additional costs?
Lightweight stool (optional but recommended)
Single sheets of A5/A4 watercolour paper (NOT or hot pressed) with a lightweight board for support.
Pens – bring your favourite pens. A minimum selection might be 3 waterproof fibre tip pigment liners – 0.1/0.3/0.5. Fountain pens are good for drawing with. For line and wash techniques waterproof ink is best. If you want to experiment with water soluble ink that’s fine.
Watercolour Paints – bring what you have. No special palette required.
Waterpot
Selection of brushes – again bring what you have, minimum of one medium brush for washes and smaller brush for detail.
Small sponge
Masking tape – optional but can be useful.
Please come prepared to walk and carry your sketching kit. Check the weather forecast beforehand – it might be sunglasses or waterproofs! We have use of the Brewery Art room so if the weather is poor that will be our base. Lynda will be in touch with participants via email before the day to confirm a meeting point.
