Creative Learning |
29th June 2019

Tutor Sophie Martin | 10.30am – 4.30pm | £63

Make a simple, soft-backed book using different bookbinding techniques as well as a hard-backed book to take home for yourself or for a handmade gift.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
You will be shown how to make a soft backed book using Japanese stab binding and simple pamphlet stitch and have the time to experiment individually with making some different versions for yourself with tutor guidance when needed. We will also make a hard backed book with multiple signatures.

By the end of the course/workshop you will:

  • Create books using pamphlet stitch and Japanese stab binding
  • Create a hard backed book with multiple signatures
  • Understand the use of various specific bookbinding terms such as stab bind, signature, pamphlet stitch and bone folder

What do I need to bring with me?
Any interesting pieces of paper or card that you have that you would like to incorporate into your books as covers or endpapers. Also, pieces of ribbon and thread if you like, there will be some of all of these available though so it is really only if you have a particular material you would like to use.

Are there any additional costs?
All materials and equipment are included.
