Autumn In Pastels | 28 Sep | 12-4pm | £55 | 16+yrs | Tutor Karen Lester | Studio 3
Explore the unique qualities of soft chalk pastels to create landscape paintings and drawings with a focus on autumn colour. Suitable for beginners this workshop will introduce some basic techniques as well as look at ways to use watercolour paint as a useful base.
What will the workshop cover and how will it be taught?
This introduction will consider paper support materials as well as pastel application, ways to blend and create colours. We will work with watercolour paper and paint to create a base from which to work. Building layers of colour and textures with soft pastels. The emphasis is very much on practical individual experience with tutor led demonstrations, discussion, and examples.
What do I need to bring?
- Pastels – soft chalky good quality in a range of landscape colours. Earth colours of yellow ochre, umbers, browns and greens are useful with primary colours of yellow, red and blue and a white.
- Watercolour paint – ideally tubes of paint with a minimum of yellow, red and blue (I would recommend cadmium yellow, ultramarine and alizarin crimson) A palette or some old porcelain saucers for mixing paint.
- Brushes – I would recommend a big brush for washes, size 12 or 14
- Paper – heavy weight textured watercolour paper (not). I like to use 200lb weight in A3 size. Sheets of paper are usually cheaper to buy and can be cut to size. You will need about 3 A3 sheets.
- Water pot – big old yoghurt pot would work
- Kitchen roll or old rags
Pastels can be messy so wear suitable clothing. An apron or old shirt to protect clothing is useful.
Are there any additional costs?
No.
