Art Outdoors: Drawing And Printmaking

Art |
15th July 2019

10am-4pm | with Karen Lester | £59

A day for those who love nature and would like to spend the day drawing and printmaking in beautiful surroundings at the National Trust’s Footprint building near Windermere.

Starting with sketching outdoors with direct observation of nature, develop these sketches into prints using drypoint techniques.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
Explore outdoors and make drawings in the morning with the emphasis on using line to describe shapes and forms. In the afternoon these drawings will be used to create prints from Perspex sheet and using simple tools to scratch lines. You will be shown how to ink the plate and print through the press. Create an edition of prints from your original line drawing.

What do I need to bring with me?

For the drawing please bring:

  • Pencil (from the soft B range)
  • Rubber and sharpener
  • Cartridge paper – loose sheets or a sketchbook. You will need a board to lean on if you have sheets of paper and a clip or tape to use to secure the paper to the board.
  • Willow charcoal

All materials for the printmaking including paper will be provided but please bring an apron or old shirt as printmaking can be messy.

What to wear
For the outdoors, dress for the weather and bring layers. It can be cool in the woodlands even on a warm day. Comfortable walking shoes and wet weather gear, including an umbrella are advisable. A rucksack or bag to carry materials will be useful.

Please bring a lightweight chair, stool or cushion to sit on outside. Remember to keep things light to carry.

Bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided

Are there any additional costs?
None
