Creative Learning Animals In Acrylic On Canvas

Tutor Thuline de Cock | 10.30-4.30pm | £59

Create the perfect portrait of your pet or favourite animal with well-known local artist Thuline De Cock.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
Thuline will give a demonstration then will guide you through the process at your own level and pace. After learning how to draw the animal working from photographs, you will cover the basics of colour mixing, how to create different brush strokes for different textures, how to mix different tones of colours and how to use glazes and learn how to represent water in acrylic.

Some drawing experience will help with the course, as it is not a back to basics, but all levels are welcome.

What do I need to bring with me?
Advice from Thuline: I will provide some photographs for inspiration, but if you want to bring your own, that’s even better. When printing images, please use photographic paper and if possible, print using the highest quality setting. Do not use other people’s paintings to work from.

  • Please wear suitable clothing for getting messy or bring an apron.
  • Each participant will be supplied with a large canvas.

Please bring the following; as advised from Thuline:

  • Pencil /rubber
  • Suggested Basic palette: Ultramarine, Burnt Umber, Yellow ochre and Titanium white. Other colour suggestions… Cadmium red hue, Cadmium yellow pale, Winsor blue, cerelium blue, crimson red. Phalto turquoise is not necessary, but is a great addition to the palette -these blues are better for creating sky colours. If you decide to buy some of the cheap boxes with small tubes, I advise to also buy a better quality burnt umber and Ultramarine.
  • Please bring a selection of big and small brushes. Personally, I like the flat and softer brushes. A rough one can come in handy too. A great pack is sold by Royal and Langnickel 12 Brush value pack. (The brushes have light blue long wooden handles) These can be used for both acrylic and Watercolour.

If you would like any advice about materials, Thuline will be happy to help, please phone 07753986856.

Please bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them.

Are there any additional costs?
There are no costs payable on the day – canvases will be provided but please bring paints and brushes as itemised.
