Want to learn how to use a film camera? Interested in developing your own prints? On this brand new course, professional photographer Tim Murray will guide you all the way from learning the functions on a film camera and improving your photographic compositions to the printing process and producing your own prints in the Brewery Darkroom.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
This is a practical course so you will spend time in the darkroom developing film and printing from negatives. We will also experiment with photograms and other creative techniques. We will use film cameras in order to explore the technical and creative aspects of photography and there will be an opportunity to study the work of influential photographers to consider what makes a great image.
By the end of the course/workshop you will
- understand the basics of film photography and how the darkroom works.
- be able to develop your own prints and films and use a variety of creative techniques to achieve the results you want.
- have a better understanding of the creative process and the principles behind achieving a great image.
- understand the relationship between aperture and shutter speed and how to use a camera creatively.
What do I need to bring with me?
Bring a film camera if you have one, but this can be provided.
Please bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them.
Are there any additional costs?
A starter pack of film and developing paper is included in the course fee. Additional materials can be purchased during the course.
About the tutor
Tim is a Kendal based freelance photographer. After a career in business, he decided to change direction and develop his passion for photography. He went back to College and enrolled on a full-time Foundation course in Art and Design, specialising in photography.
