Fancy treading the boards? Join our open theatre workshops aimed at over 60s to explore different acting techniques, learn new skills & get creative all in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
These workshops are open to all those over 60. No experience is necessary, so if you haven’t acted since your school days, now’s your chance!
- 26th April Waking up the voice and body
- 3rd May Scripts and Characters
- 10th May Shakespeare
Following these workshops, there will be an opportunity to work with professional actor and director Chris Jones on a performance project from 17 May until 28 June (7 weeks). The aim is to devise a piece to share on the Brewery Arts Theatre stage on Saturday 2 July as part of our Act Your Age theatre company.
Important information
There is no session on Tue 31 May.
What do I need to bring?
Please wear something comfortable, bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them. After each session there will be a chance to get a brew in our bar/café.

About the tutors
Chris Jones has been working as a professional actor since 2009. Career highlights include playing King George VI in the stage version of ‘The King’s Speech’ for Bill Kenwright, Treat in ‘Orphans’ at the English Theatre of Hamburg and Mr. Manningham in ‘Gaslight’ for Paul Taylor Mills. He often collaborates with Proper Job Theatre Company based in Huddersfield and has toured twice with them; Chris has also played the comic lead in several pantomimes over the years. Recently having moved to Kendal following his love of the Lake District, he is looking forward to sharing his experience with the local performers of all ages. Chris is a fully qualified teacher.
Once a member of Brewery Youth Theatre herself, Emily graduated from The Guildford School of Acting in 2018 and now enjoys sharing her skills and experience in community theatre and dance sessions. Exploring drama techniques such as storytelling, improvisation, movement, devising original work, and developing scripts, are just a few things Emily likes to focus on through games and exercises in her sessions.

Audio Description (AD) is available in Screen 1. Infrared audio system is available in both Cinema Screens 1 and 2. Induction loops (T) are in place in the Theatre, please ask for assistance on the door.
