Festivals THE WRITE STUFF – THE ART OF ADAPTATION AND COLLABORATION

Sunday 16th Oct 11.00am-12.00pm The Shakespeare Centre

Comics offer a different and special reading experience and some of the best adaptations have been best-sellers breathing new life into existing stories and introducing new audiences to literary masterpieces. Are comics creators just playing with someone else’s trainset or is this special kind of adaptation an art in its own right? What forms do collaborations take, how do they work and what are the challenges? Four leading writers come together to discuss this and more with film-maker, writer and commentator John McShane.

Robin Furth is the co-author of Marvel’s best-selling Dark Tower comic book series. |she has adapted Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Lords of Avalon series and Stephen King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman into graphic novel form and much more besides. |She is currently consultant on the Dark Tower film.

Leah Moore has co-written series such as The Trial of Sherlock Holmes, Damsels and, most recently, for 200AD’s Black Shuck with husband, John Reppion.

John Reppion’s love of Victoriana, horror, weirdness and passion for research has led to his working on comic adaptations of Lovecraft’s Shadow over Innsmouth, Stoker’s Dracula and even Lewis Carroll’s Alice books.

Emma Vieceli’s work is diverse in every sense from the best-selling Vampire Academy series to independent web series Breaks to the Alex Rider series for Walker Books.
