4 The Howgills

Walk: A strenuous and challenging hike over the Howgills from North to South.

For: Fit and experienced adult walkers only.

Duration: 6 hours.

Distance / Ascent: 12 miles/19km, 2900ft/900m

Grading: Strenuous

Description: Starting from Tebay, we ascend to Blease Fell for a splendid view of the Lune Valley where the river is shared with the M6 and the main line railway. An undulating route, boggy in parts and with steep slopes over open fell, takes us to Docker Knott. From there we follow a well used path to the 2218ft/676m summit of the Calf, which is the highest point on the Howgills.We then follow the Dales High Way over Calders and Arant Haw and descend to the centre of Sedbergh.
