Description: This walk has been included in the programme to recognise the importance of the Lancaster and Kendal canal part of which is currently being partially restored or repaired. We will follow the northern reaches from Crooklands to Kendal along the tow path or through pleasant countryside with the occasional canal bridge standing incongruously in open pasture. Although it has largley been filled in the Canal was known as the “black and white” canal, because of the frequent loads of coal and limestone.
