R2R – WE ARE IAN

Part of the 'Right to Roam' Festival

1989. Manchester. A frenzy of drugs, beats and bucket hats. Illegal raves. Acid parties. Just jumping up and down in a field and throwing two fingers to Thatcher… Remember it?

Because we don’t. We weren’t even born. But Ian was. And Ian does remember. We’ve got f*ck all now (Ian tells us). So, we’re going back to 1989. We’re gonna neck a brown biscuit. We’re gonna get off our peanuts. We’re gonna bounce around like idiots. And Ian’s going to show us how. We’re mad fer it. And you will be too. Let’s party.

We’re In Bed With My Brother, three performance makers and three best friends based in Exeter. We use real-life stories. Either our own, or our mates’. But there are no witty one-liners, and we’ve thrown away the kitchen sink. We make a massive song and dance of the mundane – a messy, multimedia mish-mash of clowning, dance routines and lip-syncing. We don’t use scripts. We’re not always sure exactly what it is we do… We’re just glad that this threesome wasn’t just a one night stand.

Recipients of the Pleasance's Charlie Hartill fund for theatre 2016.
Nominated for The 2016 Total Theatre Emerging Company Award.
Winners of The Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence.

“The fringe guide’s ‘Comedy’ and ‘Clown’ labels don’t come close. What was crowd control in the first five minutes becomes, or rather cunningly evokes, a genuine symbiosis between audience and performers.” Exeunt

★★★★★ “Be Ian, be you but really, just be in this audience.” A Younger Theatre
★★★★★ “We Are Ian’ demonstrates how having a dance can be a defiantly political act. You need to experience it for yourselves.” Three Weeks
★★★★★ “You won’t see anything else like it” Broadway Baby
★★★★ “Absurdly original” Reviews Hub
★★★★ “The unbelievable amount of energy injected into the piece is infectious and for an hour we are definitely Ian.” The British Theatre Guide
★★★★ The Scotsman
