About the course:

Aquatint Etching is an evocative method of making prints which combine hard lines with areas of atmospheric tone which was developed in the 17th Century. This all-day session will lead you through the various artistic and technical stages to produce a line etching and create a range of tones on the plate using the aquatint method. Participants will use the ‘safer’ method of etching on zinc using copper sulphate solution.

What do I need to bring with me? Are there any additional costs?

All materials are included.

More details about what the course covers:

The session will start with a brief introduction and display of examples.

The rest of the session will be taught be hands-on as the whole class is lead through the process of making a line etching, then adding a full range of tones using the fascinating aquatint technique. When the plate is finished, the range of lines and tones will have been permanently etched into the plate, and the tutor will lead the class to ink up their plates and make a print on the etching press.

By the end of the session you will have made at least one small Aquatint Etching to take home.
