Brewery Youth Dance (BYD) is fun, creative dance using all of the body and lots of imagination!
BYD is unique as it is dance for all ages and abilities, boys and girls, with lots of opportunities to take to the stage and perform (we do make use of our wonderful theatre here!). BYD helps you to learn and make your own moves with a contemporary style exploring contact, travel, floor work and technique to a variety of music with expressive and exciting choreography. There are also opportunities to work with visiting professional companies and through our BYA membership scheme to see selected professional Dance for half price!
Regular classes
Boyz Moves 7–11 years - Mon 4–5pm/Sat 11.15am–12.15pm
Boyz Moves 11–14 years - Mon 5.30– 6.30pm
BYD 7–11 years - Sat 10.15– 11.15am
BYD 11–14 years - Tues 4.30–6pm/Sat 12.45–2.15pm
BYD Cre8 15+ - Tues 6.30–8pm
BYD Baby Dance 18 months–4yrs* - Wed 10.15–11am
*NEW CLASS BYA Dance/Art 4-6yrs* - Tues 3.45pm-4.30pm*
Mature Movers 60+ yrs Tues 1pm-2pm

Boyz Moves
Boyz Moves is growing fast with three classes dedicated to young men - all the classes are a time to meet friends, share skills and have fun.
BYD (Brewery Youth Dance)
Fun creative classes, where you and your friends are at the heart of the work you create. Lots of performance opportunities!
BYD Cre8
Classes focus on Contemporary technique, stretching, toning and most importantly choreography. Creating new work for performance is a main focus and the group have performed as part of the Lancashire Youth Dance Festival, South Lakes Dance Festival, Diwali Events, The Lowry and Sadler’s Wells in London (as well as on the Brewery Stage twice a year)!!
Baby Dance
We also have 'moving and grooving, wriggling and giggling' classes for 18 months - six years and their parent/carers who enjoy movement play involving using props, bodies and imagination.
Dance/Art
Start your creative journey with us! We will explore dance and art on alternative weeks in fun creative classes for you and your little one to move and make together.
Mature Movers
We are firm believers that anyone and everyone can dance. We developed our ‘Mature Movers’ class for over 60’s last year and it is for those who simply enjoy moving to a variety of music. £4 pay as you go!

Special Events & Projects
Brewery Youth Dance delivers special projects, workshops and events throughout the year, so do keep an eye on our website for exciting upcoming opportunities. This September there were workshops with Decadance – All female hip hop dance company from New York, and half price tickets to see Rannel theatre and 12 Degrees North Dance Company. We are also currently delivering regular Outreach dance classes in two schools.
Brewery Dance Platform
6 & 7 July -
An inspiring two-day festival celebrating dance talent across the region. Day One will see the Brewery's own youth dancers perform alongside invited community dance groups. Day Two will showcase an exciting mix of Cumbria's best youth dance companies. Come and join us and support our dancers of the future!
The Brewery’s annual dance platform for schools is now a five day festival and was held between 18th-22nd March 2013
Join us for an event to celebrate dance and the creative talents of people across South Lakeland. Dance Platforms are not competitive and are to share skills and inspire new work. We are able to deliver dance within curriculum time for this and are also available for one-off workshops tailor made to suit your needs.
