Shared Endeavour
Chris Bonington & Pertemba Sherpa

A Special Fund Raising  Lecture at the Brewery Arts Centre on Behalf of the Sherpa Heritage House.

Chris Bonington  has shared a close climbing relationship with Pertemba Sherpa over many years,  most famously when “PT” was his Sirdar on the 1975 Everest South West Face  Expedition – Everest: The Hard Way. This special fund raising lecture will be  a personal account of 50 years of mutual support in the ascents of some of the  world’s highest and most difficult mountains, culminating in 1985 with Chris  reaching the summit of Mt Everest with Pertemba, Odd Elliassen and Bjorn Myra  Lund as members of the Norwegian Everest Expedition.

The lecture will  cover the following expeditions:

50th Anniversay of Chris's ascent of Annapurna II

40th Anniversary of the first asecnt of the South Face of Annapurna

First British ascent of Annapurna by an Army Mountaineering Assocation expedition - on which Pertemba served as a High Altitude Sherpa.

Everest South West Face in 1972 and 1975 - when Pertemba summitted on the latter to make second ascent of Everest: The Hard Way.

25th Anniversary of the Norwegian Everest Expedition - when Pertemba and Chris summitted together.

A veritable feast of climbs! This will be the only opportunity to see this lecture in the North of England and the only other performance will be at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

All funds raised will go to the Sherpa Heritage House - this is a porject initiated by the Sherpa community of Khumbu and is a living museum, which lies in the shadow of Everest, that has the aim of both preserving a traditional Sherpa dwelling and to help maintain their unique culture.
